Google The New OS?
Posted By tbrillon in Todd BrillonDoes Microsoft secretly fear Google?
After watching the news and
reading articles about companies like Google and Microsoft, I am now
pretty confident of the reason MS is fearing Google.
With the onslaught
of popular Google tools like Gmail, Docs, Photos and Calendar, who
wouldn't be? Google has more tentacles than ten squids and from the
looks of it, there is no stopping the mammoth sized machine.
Early in 2007 Google
began chipping away at the enterprise level of mail by offering "Google Apps".
This poses as a serious threat to the MS Enterprise Server offering
when you begin look at the costs associated with buying licensing and
paying a team to run it.
Google outshines and outwits MS on nearly
every level. Why else would MS want to buy Yahoo? Without a large
presence on the internet they will have some trouble keeping up as I
feel that Google is setting its sights high enough to actually replace
the software giant in the future.
Yes. I said it. Google is slowing but
surely making everything available online. Why do I need to pay for MS
Office when I have Google Docs? Lets face it - in
a decade or so, Google could be pumping out PCs with just enough OS on
them to boot up to Google.com. Microsoft needs to wake up. But then again it might already be to late....

A very basic OS that only boots google.com. You wouldnt mean GoS would you? many people refer to it as Google operating System. It is in fact a Ubuntu based Linux OS that is very small, it has only preloaded Google apps and a few well placed shortcuts to non application items, such as gmail web interface. Oh and by the way, GoS is actually Green OS. In My limited experience I have yet to successfully install it to a computer, it tends to lack older hardware support. I believe a kernel issue but i haven't got around to building a better kernel for it yet and trying... Getting off the issue here. Google will very soon have entire operating systems dedicated to them, and not long after that they will have proprietary OS to their name, but still free as the Google way. ~Cole

On my view of the next 10 years we will see a raise of Google for sure, and I will not be surprised if the Giant will also get into "mobile" communication. Imagine of buying a brand new mobile phone on Christmas 2010....a lovely Gphone with its unix/google OS running a fast and reliable service that not only includes GSM / Quadband UTMS and so on, but also an entire suite of applications such as the google docs spreadsheets / calendar / images manipulation / videos / presentations and who knows what else for the businessman "on the fly". I indeed envision that MS has to step down a little bit in the next 10 years....Google is the right competitor and has a clear view of what the general public wants, moreover it offers that either free of charge or at a very convenient price.
